By Ed Coyle, Golf Professional

Is Richland Golf Club Open to the Public?

Yes. Richland is a fully public 18-hole course in Middletown, MD — no membership required to play, dine, or host an event.

Yes, Richland Golf Club is fully open to the public. Despite the word "Club" in its name, no membership is required to play. Anyone can book a tee time online or by phone, dine at Valley Sports Grill, practice at the driving range, or host a wedding or corporate event. Membership is optional, not required.

Do You Need a Membership to Play?

No. Richland Golf Club is a public golf course at 50 Glenbrook Drive, Middletown, MD 21769. The public pays standard green fees and plays any day of the week. Tee times can be reserved online at richlandgolfclub.com or by calling 301-371-0400, and same-day walk-on play is available when the tee sheet allows. You do not need to join, register, or be invited.

The "Club" in the name is a nod to the full-service clubhouse and amenities, not a private-membership requirement. Richland operates the same way as any daily-fee public course in Frederick County.

Is Membership Worth It? (It's Optional)

Membership exists at Richland, but it is a value option for frequent golfers — never a requirement to play. Individual, Family, Senior, and Junior memberships start at $349 per year and add unlimited golf, priority booking, and pro shop discounts. If you play a handful of rounds a season, standard public green fees are the way to go. If you play weekly, the math starts favoring a membership. Either way, the course is yours to book.

Wait — Wasn't This Hollow Creek?

Yes. Richland Golf Club was formerly known as Hollow Creek Golf Club. The Rick Jacobson-designed, par-72 championship course opened in 2002 and was rebranded as Richland Golf Club in 2015. Same layout, same bent grass greens, same Catoctin Mountain views — just a different name on the sign. If you played Hollow Creek years ago, you already know the course.

The Restaurant Is Public Too

Valley Sports Grill is a full-service restaurant and bar open to the public, not just golfers. Stop in for breakfast, lunch, or dinner without setting foot on the course. The bar runs full liquor, beer, and wine, and Team Trivia runs on Thursday nights. It is a genuine local restaurant that happens to sit at a golf course.

Hours & How to Book

Richland is open seven days a week. The course opens at 7 AM Monday through Friday and 6:30 AM on weekends, with play through the evening. Book a tee time online at richlandgolfclub.com/book or call 301-371-0400. No membership, no invitation, no registration — the course, range, and grill are open to everyone.
